Notes on Prayer is a series that is a visual reflection of traditions that have been passed down through generations. As a child, my mother would braid my hair while reciting a prayer before she sent me off to school; divulging to me stories of generations before her, passed down through each mother and daughter relationship, all of the women having their hair braided, and prayer recited to them before the day would begin. Religion was outlawed for many of my ancestors, it was something my family had chosen to cling to, both as a reflection of hope and resilience, practiced diligently and in secrecy in order to avoid prosecution.
